GLO Marine, a Romanian marine engineering firm, has been selected to enhance the hydraulic system of the Haewene Brim FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) unit operated by Bluewater. This FPSO installation has been operational since 1999 and plays a critical role in resource extraction in the U.K. sector of the North Sea.

The task involves upgrading the subsea hydraulic power unit. This component is essential for efficient operations, supporting the control systems required to manage subsea activities. GLO Marine will work closely with Bluewater to deliver detailed engineering, manufacturing, testing, delivery, and offshore installation and commissioning of the FPSO’s hydraulic system in order to ensure that the hydraulic upgrades meet specific operational needs and comply with industry standards.

The upgrade project will be conducted with precision to meet safety, environmental, and technical standards. Each element must be carefully assessed and implemented to ensure that the FPSO continues to operate without interruption during and after the upgrade. This hydraulic system upgrade is part of Bluewater’s asset life extension strategy and is designed to ensure at least ten more years of operation.

GLO Marine’s expertise in marine engineering and its hands-on approach to complex projects like this one has positioned them as a trusted partner in the maritime sector. They bring a wealth of experience and technical knowledge, which are crucial in managing such sophisticated upgrade tasks.

“When you’re working on aging infrastructure like FPSOs, problem-solving in real time and aligning with client constraints are critical. That’s what our teams are built to do. We’re more than an execution partner – we work alongside clients to anticipate issues and deliver practical solutions,” said Alin Pohilca, Operations Director at GLO Marine

Beyond the immediate technical aspects, this project underscores the importance of maintaining and updating offshore facilities. With an aging fleet of floating production units around the world, companies are increasingly prioritizing upgrades and maintenance to extend the lifespan and improve the performance of these critical assets.

As GLO Marine undertakes the upgrade, the project serves as an example of the collaboration needed between engineering firms and operators to address the challenges of modern offshore production. The outcome is expected to bolster the operational capabilities of the Haewene Brim FPSO, contributing to safer and more efficient resource extraction in the North Sea.

In adapting to technological advancements and ensuring robust operational standards, such projects reflect an ongoing commitment to advancing the offshore industry’s infrastructure. Ultimately, these efforts help sustain resource production and support economic activities tied to energy extraction.
