Neoen has initiated the commissioning process for its massive 350 MW Culcairn solar farm in New South Wales, Australia. This project marks a significant step forward in renewable energy efforts, highlighting the state’s commitment to transitioning toward greener energy solutions.
Located north of Albury, the solar plant spans a 1,000 hectares (~2,471 acres), is composed of 760,000 panels, and is expected to generate enough electricity to power 160,000 homes each year. The project represents not only a boost in renewable energy capacity but also underscores the potential for economic benefits through job creation and sustainable development in the region. It will connect to the National Electricity Market (NEM) via an existing transmission line that crosses the area.
The Culcairn Solar Farm is expected to be operational by 2026 and is expected to generate 822,000 MWh of energy per year. SmartestEnergy has agreed to purchase 50% of the solar farm’s capacity. In addition, a Long-Term Energy Services Agreement under the NSW government’s Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap provides Neoen with a fixed minimum price.
The commissioning phase involves a series of rigorous tests to ensure all components function collectively and efficiently.
