A significant milestone has been achieved in Spain with the successful energization and warm commissioning of the Fundici Solar Farm by Ethical Power Spain S.L., a subsidiary of the Ethical Power Group. The solar farm is owned by Encavis AG, who selected Ethical Power as the principal EPC contractor. Hive Energy developed the solar farm before being sold to Encavis AG. Ethical Power also carried out work to connect the solar farm to the 132 kV Fundiciones Caetano substation, including the installation of several pylons along the 9 km cable route.

Located in the Seville region of Andalusia, Spain, the new 55MW solar farm is set to generate substantial amounts of renewable energy, contributing significantly to the regional power grid. The solar farm was built on 296 acres using 88,760 modules incorporating tracking mounts and advanced N-type solar modules, which are highly efficient and durable. The solar park will generate enough energy to power ~28,300 homes per year.

The solar farm’s commissioning involved a comprehensive series of tests and evaluations to ensure operational readiness and optimal performance. These procedures confirmed the facility’s capability to deliver reliable energy output, aligning with stringent quality and safety standards required for renewable energy projects.

Local communities also stand to benefit from the project’s completion. Apart from contributing to environmental goals, the solar farm is anticipated to provide economic growth in the area. The construction and ongoing maintenance of the facility have created job opportunities, enhancing the local economy and promoting community development. Up to 1,000 sheep will also use the land for grazing while the panels provide protection against the sun. In addition, the sheep will help control the growth of vegetation on site and reduce the risk of wildfires.

This solar farm is the first international construction project delivered by Ethical Power. Ethical Power will carry out operations and maintenance at Fundici for the next two years after energisation, with partnership work between Ethical Power and Encavis extending to solar projects in Italy.

“We are delighted to confirm the energisation and commissioning of the Fundici solar farm. This was our first project in Spain, and the scope of work was much greater than a typical solar EPC. This achievement was possible thanks to the hard work and perseverance of our team and the excellent partnership between Ethical Power and Encavis. Fundici represents a significant step forward in Spain’s transition to a greener, more sustainable energy landscape.”

David Martinez, Country Manager, Ethical Power

Overall, the energization and commissioning of the Fundici Solar Farm mark a pivotal step in advancing Spain’s renewable energy landscape. Through strategic planning, collaboration, and innovative technology, this project sets a positive precedent for future renewable endeavors, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.
