Construction of Greece’s tallest building, set to redefine the Athenian skyline, has reached its halfway point. The landmark tower, part of the ambitious Ellinikon project, will rise 200 meters. This tower signifies a transformative phase in Greece’s urban development.
The high-rise venture, the Riviera Tower, is part of the massive redevelopment of the former Ellinikon International Airport. As Greece’s tallest, it’s designed to provide premium residential spaces, featuring modern amenities while prioritizing sustainability and energy efficiency.
Lamda Development is spearheading this project, which aims to breathe new life into the area, turning a once-underutilized space into a vibrant urban hub. The Riviera Tower is designed by Foster + Partners, Bouygues is working with Greece’s Intrakat as joint contractors, Mace and Jacobs are project managers, and Hill International is supervisor. The tower will offer 169 luxury apartments with expansive views of the sea, attracting residents who value both lifestyle and location.
The building’s design includes green terraces, energy-saving technologies, and an emphasis on sustainable construction practices. This focus on eco-friendly features aligns with global trends aiming to reduce the environmental footprint of large-scale construction projects.
70% less cement was used in the foundation, which was a pioneering endeavor involving six months of lab testing. The building also will used advanced heat pumps, smart lighting, and water management features that will contribute to the building’s performance.
The Ellinikon development is not limited to the Riviera Tower. The larger project plans to develop three more towers. The Riviera Tower is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026 and has been LEED Gold Pre-Certified.
The development provides a significant boost to Greece’s economy, creating thousands of jobs during and after construction. It represents a burgeoning era of modernization for Athens, emphasizing the city’s capacity for growth and innovation.
Through the Riviera Tower and its surrounding developments, Greece demonstrates its commitment to investing in infrastructure that combines architectural excellence with sustainable living, paving the way for future urban projects.
