IJM Corporation Berhad, a prominent player in the construction industry in Malaysia, has recently secured two significant contracts for data center projects in the Elmina Business Park in Selangor, Malaysia. These contracts, valued at over $500 million, mark a notable achievement for the company and highlight the growing demand for data center development in the region.

The project awarded by Pearl Computing Malaysia Sdn Bhd will cover both mechanical and electrical work for a hyperscale data center. As digital transformation continues to accelerate, the need for efficient and reliable data centers is becoming increasingly critical. IJM’s involvement in these projects underscores its capability to handle complex infrastructure requirements.

The deal involves the development of a large-scale data center complex. The facility is expected to meet the highest industry standards, accommodating a wide range of technological needs. IJM is tasked with fit-out works for one data hall, including the supply and installation of mechanical, electrical, security and telecommunication systems. Testing and commissioning of all system, services, and equipment will also be conducted. The start date is expected for third quarter of 2026 and completion is expected in the first quarter of 2028.

“Following the earlier core and shell package, this award marks a significant scale-up in IJM’s data-centre portfolio, underscoring market confidence in our delivery capability, execution strength and ability to manage large-format digital infrastructure. The Elmina project also reflects our growing foothold in Malaysia’s digital-infrastructure sector and builds on our collaboration with Sime Darby Property to deliver assets that meet the needs of global technology clients.” – Dato’ Lee Chun Fai, Group CEO & Managing Director, IJM Corporation Berhad

The second project, spanning 77 acres, is a core and shell package awarded by Sime Darby Property Bhd to build the main building of a hyperscale data center through a long-term build-and-lease agreement with Pearl Computing Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Raiden APAC Pte. Ltd. Construction, completion, testing, and commissioning of the facility’s core and shell, along with related infrastructure is included in the job. The start date for the second project is expected for fourth quarter of 2025 and completion is expected in the second quarter of 2027.

“We are pleased to partner with IJM Construction, a company with a proven track record in delivering complex, large-scale projects, to execute the construction of this state-of-the-art facility.” – Dato’ Seri Azmir Merican, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Sime Darby Property

These projects reflect IJM’s strategic approach to embracing technological advancements in construction. The company’s expertise in delivering high-quality, timely solutions positions it as a key contributor to Malaysia’s burgeoning digital infrastructure sector.

The strategic location of Selangor, with its robust connectivity and proximity to Kuala Lumpur, makes it an ideal hub for data center development. The state’s infrastructure facilitates seamless integration, supporting the region’s ambitions to become a significant player in the digital economy.

IJM’s recent contracts contribute to Malaysia’s national goals, boosting local employment and promoting technological innovation. As these projects progress, they are expected to play a crucial role in establishing Malaysia as a competitive destination for data-driven enterprises.

With these developments, IJM demonstrates its commitment to advancing construction and engineering practices in alignment with current technological trends. The company’s ongoing projects are not only significant from a business perspective but also help drive the country’s digital transformation forward. As the world increasingly relies on robust data centers, IJM’s participation in these projects positions it as a leader in the field, poised for further growth and success in the future.
