Nouryon, a global leader in specialty chemicals, has announced the successful commissioning of two rooftop solar photovoltaic systems at two of its manufacturing facilities in Singapore. The systems were developed and installed by EDP Renewables APAC (EDP). This initiative marks a significant step in the company’s sustainability efforts and commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.
The solar projects, now operational, are located at Nouryon’s Jurong Island sites. These installations are part of a broader strategy to integrate renewable energy sources into the company’s operations, enhancing energy efficiency and minimizing environmental impact.
At the Jurong Island facility, the solar panels have a capacity of 250 kWp, which is expected to cover a substantial portion of the site’s energy requirements. This move not only reduces reliance on non-renewable energy sources but also supports Singapore’s national agenda to enhance sustainability and renewable energy adoption.
“At Nouryon, we are committed to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions throughout our value chain as a pillar of our Carbon Business Strategy.”
Eduardo Nardinelli, Senior Vice President, South America & Global Carbon Business Strategy, Nouryon
Nouryon’s integrated solar solutions reflect its proactive approach to tackling climate change and enhancing operational sustainability. By utilizing solar technology, the company aligns with global trends and regulatory frameworks aimed at promoting clean energy. This alignment also benefits Nouryon by potentially reducing energy costs and boosting the resilience of its energy supply.
The completion of these projects was made possible through a collaboration with external partners specializing in solar technology. This partnership ensured the optimal design, installation, and maintenance of the solar systems, guaranteeing their efficiency and longevity.
Nouryon’s commitment to sustainability doesn’t stop at solar energy. The company is continually seeking innovative methods to further reduce its environmental impact across various aspects of its operations worldwide. This includes optimizing resource use, minimizing waste, and ensuring safe and environmentally friendly manufacturing processes.
“This commissioning marks a milestone for our team in Singapore and the broader region,” said Sobers Sethi, Senior Vice President, Emerging Markets and China at Nouryon. “By harnessing renewable energy, we continue to strengthen our regional presence and demonstrate our unwavering commitment to providing sustainable solutions that benefit both our customers and the environment.”
Nouryon’s broader climate goals include reducing its absolute Scopes 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 40% by 2030 compared to 2019 and being a net-zero organization by 2050.
As sustainability becomes increasingly critical to the construction and engineering sectors, Nouryon’s efforts exemplify how companies can effectively integrate clean energy solutions into their operations. These initiatives not only contribute to environmental protection but also enhance the company’s market competitiveness in a world where sustainability is an ever-growing priority.
