Primergy Solar has successfully commissioned the Ash Creek Solar project in Texas, expanding renewable energy capacity in the region. The project, located in Hill County, boasts a 408 MW ground-mounted solar photovoltaic array. This development is expected to generate clean energy for the local community, contributing to Texas’s sustainability goals.

The Ash Creek Solar project spans over 3,000 acres and is expected to power 90,000 households. By harnessing the abundant sunlight in central Texas, it aims to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and decrease carbon emissions. This aligns with broader efforts across the state to transition toward greener energy solutions.

“Projects like Ash Creek Solar provide thoughtful energy solutions to meet the needs of consumers, drive long-term value, and strengthen America’s energy independence.”

    Ty Daul, CEO, Primergy

This project has generated 350 job opportunities during the construction phase, stimulating the local economy. Primergy has collaborated closely with regional stakeholders, including local governments and utility companies, to align with community needs and regulatory requirements. Primergy and SOLV Energy, the engineering, procurement, and construction partner for the project, invested in local education for the Abbott and Penelope Independent School Districts, improving learning spaces for lasting impact. The project is set to deliver around $100M in tax revenue to Hill County and its schools over its lifespan.

In the context of Texas’s energy grid, the Ash Creek Solar project represents a movement towards diversifying energy sources. Texas has long been known for its oil and gas resources, but projects like Ash Creek signal a shift towards renewable sources. The state aims to balance its traditional energy profile with sustainable alternatives, ensuring a resilient grid that can withstand various demands and potential disruptions.

Output from the project is covered by a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) between Microsoft and Primergy.

“We are proud to work alongside Microsoft, our local stakeholders, and the broader Hill County community to ensure this project delivers reliable and affordable energy to the grid, along with economic growth for the community for years to come.”

    Ty Daul, CEO, Primergy

This transition not only supports environmental goals but also provides economic benefits. Cleaner energy solutions often result in long-term cost savings for consumers, as solar and storage technologies can reduce electricity prices and contribute to a more stable energy market.

Primergy Solar is committed to expanding its portfolio of renewable projects across the country. With the commissioning of Ash Creek, the company continues to demonstrate its capacity to deliver large-scale, impactful solar projects.

As more communities look to enhance their renewable energy infrastructure, projects like Ash Creek serve as a model for how solar energy can be effectively integrated into the existing grid. By focusing on energy independence and sustainability, Texas is paving the way for a cleaner, more reliable future.

Ash Creek Solar was originally developed by Orion Power Generation, LLC, a joint venture between Orion Renewable Energy Group LLC and Eolian, which began in 2016. Primergy acquired the project in 2021.
