Skanska has commenced a significant $98 million expansion project at Redmond Municipal Airport in Oregon. This initiative aims to increase the airport’s capacity and improve its operational efficiency to better serve its growing passenger numbers.

The construction project will focus on both expanding and renovating the existing terminal. Key additions include an extra 7,4000 square feet of concourse and terminal space. This expansion is crucial given the rising demand for air travel in the region, largely driven by Central Oregon’s growing population and tourism industry.

Enhancements are not limited to just the terminal. The expansion will add more than 80,000 square feet of new space. Seven new jet bridges, expanded waiting areas, concessions, restrooms, and terminal passenger seating will be added. These changes are expected to facilitate smoother operations and reduce delays for flights, thereby enhancing the overall travel experience for passengers.

The project will proceed in phases to ensure that the airport remains operational with minimal disruption to travelers. Construction is projected to be completed by early 2028, and efforts are being made to incorporate sustainable practices throughout the building process. More energy-efficient lighting, a modern HVAC system, and solar panels will be used. The aim is for a LEED Silver certification. This approach aligns with broader industry trends aimed at reducing carbon footprints and promoting environmental responsibility in construction projects.

Skanska, a global leader in construction and project development, brings extensive experience to this endeavor. The company is known for its expertise in handling large-scale infrastructure projects. This expansion at Redmond Municipal Airport is expected to be one of their hallmark projects in the Pacific Northwest.

Community leaders and airport officials have expressed optimism about the expansion, viewing it as an essential investment for the region’s future. The project is anticipated to create jobs during the construction phase and potentially attract more airlines and routes once completed.

The airport currently serves as a vital hub for both business and leisure travelers in Central Oregon. Enhancing its facilities is seen as a key step to accommodate anticipated growth and improve the overall quality of service for passengers.

By expanding Redmond Municipal Airport, it will ensure that the airport can meet the demands of the future. This project represents a crucial development in Oregon’s infrastructure landscape, addressing both current needs and positioning the region for long-term success in the aviation sector.
